The Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation has approved the installation of 70 pokies machines in Truganina, despite community opposition and a unanimous vote against the proposal by Wyndham City Council.

A VCGLR spokesperson said the commission considered the position of the (Werribee Football) Club and concerns raised by Council and other community groups in making its decision. After a two-day hearing last month, the Commission determined that the application on balance would have no net detriment to the well-being of the community of the City of Wyndham, the spokesperson said.

A major law firm bidding to assist Victoriaâs royal commission into Crown casino also advised the casino operator on its Barangaroo casino project in Sydney, along with working for Crownâs second-largest shareholder.
It has prompted the Victorian opposition and a prominent industry expert to raise concerns about the firmâs potential conflict of interest.
