news contributors. it s stunning through this that we only heard from speaks person at the white house and the department of defense and department of state. why do you think it is? we heard yesterday from the president. we haven t heard from chairman millie and the head of the department of defense. martha: it s mind boggling. the president this is not surprising coming from biden. he won the presidency from hiding in his basement. now he s hiding in camp david. bret baier, i was shocking to him saying he s not called a single word leader since the fall of afghanistan. what is he doing? napping? it s unbelievable. he s victim shaming, he s blaming donald trump for the problem. he s blaming innocent victims for not wanting to leave the country fast enough. everybody is to blame but him.
i think were the words. is that reasonable? what did you think of that? how did it sit with you? no, it doesn t sit well with me at all. the entire tone, we ve talked about this before, over the last few weeks has been defensive and dismissive and blaming others. at the end he said, yes, the buck stops with me, but there was a lot of finger pointing, and a lot of finger pointing at the integrity of the afghan people. i have called it geopolitical victim shaming. i think that s what i continue to feel and see from this white house that makes it most outrageous. how many americans would stand up and fight if everybody else left them hanging out to dry and the taliban was rolling through their neighborhood? the afghans are not different from us in so many ways that they make different decisions under different circumstances. they are in a catastrophically tough bind that we maybe couldn t prevent, but we can definitely alleviate. i think that s the core issue that we ve got to shift. bi
on today and the image that we have seen of him to this point really is the one we saw yesterday, the president effectively isolated, appearing alone, speaking via videoconference with some of his top advisers at camp david. he was seated at that big table by himself and it shows the position where he is effectively alone on this. this has been the president s position all along, that he wanted the u.s. out, he did not want to send any additional troops to that region and did not want to pass on this war to a fifth president. nonetheless, the situation that he faces right now, obviously there is really urgency about how the u.s. is going to be able to get out some of those afghan interpreters, those translators, those fixers, and those others, speaking to a former afghan veteran just moments ago, this individual was really angry at the president and the white house for what they described as afghan victim shaming, effectively blaming the afghans at this point and saying that much more
ago he was trying to be to break list father s record and get a fourth term and be the only person to get a fourth term as governor. so a lot has changed in a very quick period of time except the governor, i wouldn t put it past him to see if he could run down the road, but i think ron may be right that the assembly may go forward just so they can get something on the record. susan, i want to just clarify one thing because they re calling it a press conference. he did not have a press conference. he has not answered questions. there were no reporters there. he was just speaking from his script. as you pointed out, victim shaming and undercutting the allegations of all except for the trooper and trying to explain that one away. robert mcquade, let s talk about this, talk about generational change and how the lines have moved and the political climate and blaming it on the toxic political climate that we all
