to pull the moderate democrats in. but some of the things see leadership touting, that is not a win. student loan repayment, there was a moment on a conference call yesterday where virginia fox was wishing it went further and kevin mccarthy had to come back and say we have statuary pay go. and there is a bunch of other things like the irs money where they got $1.9 billion and republicans said wasn t there $80 billion that we wanted back here. i would say that is objectively a very small sliver of the irs funding. and, you re sort of touching on something here. what pramila jayapal just said in that clip that lauren played was basically that they are not reducing spending. military spending is not being touched. veteran spending is not being touched. spending is going to continue to increase under this bill. and i think for a lot of republicans, that is not acceptable. and they re saying as much.
to find a reasonable way to lift the debt ceiling take control of the runaway spending for it are you clear on speaker mccarthy s formula to make that happen as republicans in the example given the $50 million they identified in foreign aid to tunisia to promote tourism. maybe that s not a good use right now if u.s. spending. maybe that s not a good use of government funds. mccarthy could be right. however what republicans really want is to balance the budget in 10 years. in order to do that of military spending is not on the table, which they said it s not. a veteran spending is not on the table, if social security and medicare don t get cut you have to find 85% and discretionary spending of all other kinds and most are non- partisan know how that will happen.
