Water and Sanitation Deputy Minister David Mahlobo assessed the extent of water challenges in Ekurhuleni and Pretoria on Wednesday after large parts of Gauteng were crippled by water shortages in recent weeks.
The province has been struggling with water supply in several municipalities in recent months, which has led to taps running dry for weeks and some areas months on end.
Residents will have to put up with disruptive rainfall and stage three power cuts until five o’clock in the morning as Eskom works to replenish emergency reserves.
Eskom said it’s confident it will be able to keep the lights on for the rest of the year after several of its underperforming power stations turned a corner.
