Coordinated Enrollment for Vernon Parish Preschool Programs (Head Start and LA4) for the 2021-22 school year will be held at 3 central locations this year.
Applications can be completed online through the Vernon Parish School Board website at www.vpsb.us
Please note the following registration dates: March 2nd at North Polk Elementary School for preschool students who will attend North Polk Elementary, March 9th at Pickering Elementary School for preschool students who will attend Pickering, Evans, Pitkin, Rosepine schools, and March 11th at East Leesville Elementary for students who will attend East Leesville, Anacoco, Hornbeck and Hicks schools. We encourage all families with age 3 and 4 year old children who are interested in preschool to attend.
The Vernon Parish School Board met at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 4, 2021.
The Board recognized Samantha Westerfield from Parkway Elementary as the VP Elementary Teacher of the Year; Donna Adams from Leesville Junior High as the Middle School Teacher of the Year, and Summer Peters from Leesville High School as High school teacher of the year.
Mr. Curtis Clay added two Head Start policies to the agenda for Tuesday s meeting.
Mr. Tim Woods addressed the status of the DCIP Grant â this grant is for schools that are at least 20% enrolled by military families that are in the military communities but are not on the military installation. Schools covered by this grant are Leesville Junior High and High School and Pickering Elementary, Junior High and High School. The District is waiting to hear from the OEA for the go ahead to begin the addition of building to the school properties. Architects have been hired and meetings with the individual schools regarding the inside structure
Treasure Manes from Hornbeck Elementary School was named Employee of the Month.
Meredith Campbell provided an insurance update for the Board: The insurance company is close to making a decision on the Hicks Gym. For athletic fields and local small repairs, the Board is welcome to use local companies. For other buildings, numbers are expected by March 15 â engineers are currently creating specification and drawings for all damaged schools. Ms. Campbell will be requesting a second check from the insurance company to cover the local contractors â it was suggested that all of the roof work be handled at the same time.
