Matthew Clarke set to appear at Plymouth Magistrates' Court in connection with incident which ended with a crashed car in a residential St Budeaux street
County commissioners are concerned about allowing the public to petition for what’s called a comprehensive plan amendment. The worry appears to be centered around the number of people making the request and the fact that they can request changes affecting land they do not own.
Under the current rules, 20 signatures are needed to initiate a comprehensive plan amendment proposal. The proposal is later researched by county staff, scrutinized by elected officials and then, if all is well, approved. The process doesn’t exist elsewhere in the region and has been used in Sarasota County only once.
Using that publicly initiated process was the brainchild of Becky Ayech, a longtime resident, environmental activist and president of the Miakka Community Club in northeast Sarasota County.
