BELMONT Seven new members were recently inducted into the Genesee Valley Central School chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS).
New members include Emera Aquila, Elizabeth Bentley, Sierra Burrows, Kimberly Butler, Addison Herring, Trenton Scott and Nathan Slawson.
Genesee Valley alumnus, Joshua Deichmann, class of 2014, offered his congratulations to the new members in a pre-recorded video. Joshua spoke on the NHS pillar of service. “True service is more of a posture or a mindset,” commented Joshua. “Try to find a way to serve one person each day. You don’t know what impact it might have.”
During the ceremony, students were presented with their NHS pins and certificates by superintendent Dr. Brian Schmitt and 7-12 Principal Mrs. Sara Donlon.

It was announced Monday, March 8th that more spectators can be in attendance at IHSA outdoor sporting events statewide for the remainder of the school year – to 20% capacity. The previous guidelines allowed only 50 spectators at an event regardless of its location. The change does not affect indoor: only 50 spectators are still allowed. Galesburg Athletic Director Eric Matthews says he estimates that could do 475-500 spectators at Van Dyke Field – not including standing areas around the field. “That pretty much takes care of the 20%,” Matthews said. “We have a large number out for football; we have a decent amount out for cheerleading and Gadets; and our band is up around 100 (members) and the Color Guard. So we kind of hit that number pretty quick. And I think that’s OK because, at the end of the day, it’s trying to make sure that whoever is in the stadium as a participant, they have someone there that is able to see them.” Matthews says now they a

and reduce our forces further down to an embassy presence by the end of next year, but afghanistan remains a very dangerous place. and as so many families know, our troops continue to risk their lives for us. growing up in massachusetts john dawson was an honor student who played varsity soccer loved the bruins, loved the pats, was always up for fun. running into a room while spraying silly string or photo bombing long before it was in style. john was passionate about service. he shared the same convictions as so many we honor today who wanted nothing more than to join a common cause and be part of something bigger than himself. he channeled his love of cycling into charity bike rides with his he joined the army and as a combat medic, he fulfilled his dream of helping people. he loved his job.
