u.s. authorities handle families much differently in moments like these. should the malaysians be doing it differently? also in world, russian flags raised at a ukrainian naval base. seized in the disputed territory of crimea. will putin be satisfied with annexing crimea or does he have other soviet republics circleded? good afternoon, everyone. we ll begin with the world lead. incredibly, we re now into the 13th day since flight 370 vanished without a trace. now, days after we watched the search expand and expand into two different hemispheres, australia says now it is quote refined its focus. in the southern indian ocean after a u.s. official said the plane is most likely somewhere on the southern end of the search area. and today, we may know the
vanished without a trace effectively with 239 people on board, it has now become the longest disappearance in the modern history of commercial aviation. incredibly, almost nothing has been ruled out. but officials seem more and more convinced as time goes by that that plane flew deep into the indian ocean. as opposed to northward over what is effectively very heavily monitored air space. in fact, australia says that it is, quote, significantly refi refining its search area, and that based on the jet s potential flight path and fuel load. so far, here s what else we know. absolutely nothing has turned up. and precious time is being lost, as well. a p3 orion search plane from the united states is one of a half dozen now parked on tarmacs, not doing anything related to a search. instead, waiting for the country

space, circle i m standing in now, would define the area that would be the search area if the wall street journal article were true. this is much, much bigger than the united states. much bigger. talking close to 20 million square miles if our math is right. simply put, that is unsearchable. it is far too big to begin searching it. let s bring up to the actual search area, what the malaysian authorities say actually counts in the equation. we know where it took off. it went from kuala lumpur, flew 30 minutes or so and vanished without a trace up in this area. and with all these competing reports of people seeing things or thinking the plane turned in a radar ping, you see them all marked out. there are many reports coming in. these are the search areas as we know them now.
