Remote work days can give non-residents a Jackson city income tax break, treasurer says

JACKSON, MI – While many people continue to work from home, some who make up a portion of the city of Jackson’s tax base have a chance to relieve a bit of their tax burden.
Those who work for a Jackson company or business but don’t live in the city may be confused by a section of the city’s income tax form that calculates how many days they worked in the city to count toward the income tax.
“Working at home counts as a day in the city,” the J-1040 individual income tax form states on page 2. “Do not subtract out.”

The first 100 unaccompanied migrant children have arrived at the Starr Commonwealth Albion campus, as the organization helps the federal government find a safe haven for hundreds of children, officials said.
Starr Commonwealth signed a facilities agreement to allow the Administration for Children and Families to use its 350-acre campus for up to 240 unaccompanied migrant children, specifically boys age 5 to 17, officials said. When the first 100 children arrived Monday, April 12, they were welcomed by staff, received a medical check and were provided clothing,

VANDERCOOK LAKE, MI Customers can now leave Klavon’s Pizzeria & Pub full of pizza and beer at night and head back the next morning for a caffeinated pick-me-up.
The Jackson-based pizzeria chain has opened its first drive-thru coffee window in its Vandercook Lake location at 1361 E. McDevitt Ave. Coffee, pastries and bagels are now available from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, company officials said.

JACKSON, MI – Jacksonians eager to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on Wednesday, March 17, will find festive food and drink at bars and restaurants around town.
Bars and restaurants were closed on St. Patrick’s Day a year ago because of the coronavirus pandemic, but several across Jackson are back and ready to go for “take two” on a pandemic St. Paddy’s holiday.
