When might full capacity shows return to Evansville? Venues hope soon

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Alexis Berggren has spent her professional career at entertainment venues across the country planning all sorts of events. But last week’s concert at Old National Events Plaza was a new experience. As The Allman Betts Band was on stage doing sound checks, Berggren felt the excitement. Soon, patrons would start trickling through the door at allotted times. They would scatter throughout the 2,500-seat Aiken Theatre in pods, wearing masks and ordering snacks and drinks with an app. It was different, without a doubt. On the same stage in 2019, classic rock act Foreigner asked a packed crowd to lock arms yes, even strangers and sway back and forth to the band s 1980s hit, I Want to Know What Love Is.

Vanderburgh County Commissioners approved the paperwork to create a new site for those shots, between the local health department and Deaconess Health System. There is a specific portion of the population this new partnership is aiming to reach. The clinic will give people in poverty, the uninsured or underinsured, and others who are eligible, access to the vaccine. These too will be free.

Vanderburgh has been a blue county for two weeks Now what?

EVANSVILLE, Ind.  The second week of minimal coronavirus spread in the area means that Vanderburgh County finds itself in the blue once again. The Indiana State Department of Health publishes a color-coded map each week, with four different colors each denoting a particular severity of the outbreak and in turn certain restrictions. When a county remains at a lower level for two weeks in a row, those restrictions are allowed to loosen. That s the situation Vanderburgh County found itself in Wednesday. None of the surrounding counties have reached that advisory level. The key change is that venues can now operate at 100% capacity, provided that social distancing can be maintained. The recommended attendance limit for social gatherings and events is 250.
