Plans to renovate Vanderveer Park are moving ahead, although one Easton Area School Board member thinks it’s a bad idea.
Easton Area School District Superintendent David Piperato outlined the plan during his report Tuesday at the school board meeting. You can watch the meeting on YouTube.
Piperato said the City of Easton will pay a matching grant of $48,000 in order to go after $325,000 in funding. The park is on school district property next to Cottingham Stadium but it won’t cost the school district anything to improve the park, Piperato said.

(Davenport, IA) This week s freezing temperatures are good for one thing, freezing everything in sight. That s good news for those who ve been wanting to ice skate outdoors this winter.
The lagoon at VanderVeer Park in Davenport has now frozen deeply enough to support ice skating.
In a Facebook Post, Davenport Parks and Recreation said staff have cleared snow off the ice for residents to skate on, but warn that being outdoors in these frigid temperatures could be dangerous. They did provide an alternative, as The Rivers Edge is open for people to safely ice skate indoors.

Recently we told you people feeding the water fowl at
Vander Veer Park was probably the reason the lagoon wasn t freezing. If the water is populated by ducks waiting for their next meal they won t migrate, won t leave, and won t let the water freeze over for skaters.
Whether Quad Citians stopped feeding the birds, the ducks naturally migrated, or it s so danged cold, we re happy to report the lagoon is frozen. It s solid and ready for skaters.

DAVENPORT, Iowa The VanderVeer Lagoon is safe for ice skating as of mid-February, 2021, according to the City of Davenport.
The ice in the lagoon has been cleared off for residents who want to partake. The city reminds ice skaters to keep in mind the frigid temperatures before going out.
The Vander Veer lagoon is located at the corner of Brady Street and West Central Park Avenue in the northeast corner of Vander Veer Park.
