own decisions whether they agree or not with impeachment to say you know what? we don t like how the president s handling a lot of things right now and not everyone is sharing this economy. the farmers are saying we don t like the effect of this trade war or the oil waivers on our viral biofuels business. i said this is a value check of patriotism check for many independents and moderate republicans. it is not about just a fired up democratic base, it is about independents and republicans that are just starting to say i don t want my kids to watch this president on tv right now. i don t like how this feels. bret: to questions about the debate last night and arguably on number of media organizations that said you had a good debate. senator warren held a different plan who said it is going to be phased in and then people who want medicare for all would vote on it. did you see an evolution in
[ applause ] senator klobuchar. the nation was riveted this week by the testimony in washington. one of the people we heard from yesterday was lieutenant colonel vindman. and what he said was he spoke to his immigrant father, and he said in this country, you can tell the truth, and it s going to be fine. it reminded me of army counsel years and years ago in the mccarthy hearings, someone from iowa actually, mr. welch, who said, have you no sense of decency, sir? i want us to remember that this election is, yes, an economic check on this president. and i have bold ideas that we can do to go forward as a country to make college more affordable and bring down the cost of health care, yes. but this is also a patriotism check, a value check, a decency check. and when you look at the people that turned out in kentucky and turned out in virginia, people

message loud and clear for everyone to hear. [cheers and applause] just days after air force one left lexington. president trump: if you lose, it s on the really bad message. i m sure you will all be writing about the history that was made in kentucky. kentucky and virginia might not be presidential battlegrounds next year, but pennsylvania should be. they lost for the first time since the civil war. democrats believe the common denominator is donald trump. it s about patriotism and a value check. it is some on his economic policy when he adds more and more dots. and all these races, republicans remain strong in rural areas. he is trying to help his case by accusing elizabeth warren until recently. he says, i ve been a democrat my whole life. this person has only fairly recently in the mid- 90s become a democrat.
but that s just a moment. what really matters is can you build the coalition? and for me, that is our fired up base, but it s also bringing in independents, who are more and more, as you know from the 2016 election when we took back the house of representatives and won in all of these places, like the governor s race in wisconsin and michigan and kansas. they came over to us. and i think for them, it s an economic check. they re afraid of this guy. they re afraid of what he s going to do to the underpinnings of our economy and how things are still getting more expensive, like pharmaceutical prices. but it s also a value check. and that s why i have been so surprised at the number of people that have showed up at our events who say, look, i didn t vote last time or i voted independent. or a few of them, one guy in line in new hampshire, everyone had i m a climate change voter sticker. you know, i m a supreme court voter sticker. and this guy comes up and he whispers, i voted for donal
