When asked about the threat notifications that several Opposition politicians and journalists received from Apple warning them of spyware targeting their devices, MeitY minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the Apple and CERT-In were investigating the matter, and that they were expecting results
IT Minister Vaishnaw has said that the government will soon meet to discuss the deepfake issue. He added that the safe harbour immunity clause will not apply if platforms do not take adequate steps to remove deepfakes.
IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw told reporters that the government had recently issued a notice to companies on the deepfake issue, and the platforms responded, but added that the firms will have to be more aggressive in taking action on such content.
“We are concerned by the statements we have seen in media from some MPs as well as others about a notification received by them from Apple. The notification received by them as per media reports mentions about ‘state-sponsored attacks on their devices. However, much of the information by Apple on this issue seems vague and non-specific in nature,” IT and telecom minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said, addressing reporters Tuesday.
