India is regularly in touch with US vaccine manufacturers and US administration for maintaining the supply chain of essential raw material needed by domestic manufacturers for vaccine production, MEA said
Of these about 6 crore doses will be supplied by the Centre while another 5.8 crore doses will be available for states and UTs to procure by themselves, the ministry said.
Amid the ongoing second wave of Covid-19, the shortage of vaccine has posed a major challenge towards India. To tackle the crisis, the Indian government is now in talks with Pfizer and Moderna over supplies of its Covid-19 vaccine as only these two companies are rolling out the vaccines. Meanwhile, Sputnik V has a limited supply.
The Union Health Ministry on Friday said that over 1.84 crore cases are currently available with the states and union territories. The ministry added that three lakh more will be delivered to them over the next three days.
