fired. get out, get out! harris: your reaction to that? we welcome the president to kansas city and we welcome the vfw members to kansas city. this is the first time they ve been there in 11 years. and i was there yesterday visiting with those veterans. i will tell you that this administration has been working hard on behalf of veterans and part of that is the accountability that you just talked about. we have had experiences in which it is very difficult to get rid of bad employees within the department of veterans affairs and, the upper echelon of that va system. that s a good news. i judge the va by the number of cases, veterans in my state to call me and ask for help, and that number is way too high. they can t navigate themselves through the va system and a lot of that has to do with health care. particularly in a state like missouri or kansas, surrounding states and kansas city, there is
health care, something very important. we are greatly expanding telehealth and walk-in clinics, so our veterans can get in anywhere at any time, they can get what they need and they can learn about the problem and they don t have to necessarily drive long distances and wait. we are all and it s been a very big success we are processing veterans disability claims more quickly than ever before. the va has implemented the decision ready claims process where claims can be completed in under two weeks. we are striving for one day, but only two weeks. it used to be many, many months. last year, i signed legislation legislation it s amazing, i just said last year. it s been a long time already,
the culture, bureaucracy and the nature. it s a huge place and when you talk about the things that would naturally occur in veterans health care, a walk-in clinic, access to health care closer to home, these are things of the va has traditionally thought about in terms of big buildings and big cities. big hospitals in big cities, not necessarily within the best interest of the veteran. in this case, the mission act, the things that is replacing choice, changes how the veteran can access health care not to the number of miles were a number of days it takes to get service. but here is the key, what s in the best interest of the veteran? that should be the standard all along. it s surprising as you look at things in the va that that has not been the case from the very beginning. harris: he obviously had lots of support in the audience, i wonder if there are those who are disappointed that the va reform is in moving faster, though. do you sense that they are? i would think that s the c
as he claps and exits the stage, let s bring in republican senator jerry moran of kansas. he sits on the veterans affairs committee. let me ask you, sir, as a president is waiting to people out in the audience, he talked a lot about getting better health care for veterans, which included telehealth, something that is provided with a lot of insurance companies these days. also walk-in clinics, same-day mental health. and he talked about now, his power. when it comes to people carrying out that mission at the va, do we have that sound bite? president trump: now, what a bad person, may be a bad federal employee in this case, somebody bad mistreats, neglect, or abuses our great veterans in our time of need to come up we can turn to them, look at them in the eye and say, you are
never give up, and we will never stop fighting for our country, our flag and our freedom.
