PUTRAJAYA: The Court of Appeal was told that large sums of money had entered into the bank accounts of Datuk Seri Najib Razak, but the former prime minister did not make enquiries to ask where the money came from.
Instead, the Pekan MP had “immediately utilised” the monies by issuing cheques for personal and political uses, moved millions between two companies, and had shopping sprees at Swiss luxury jeweller boutique De Grisogono in Italy and designer boutique Chanel in Honolulu in the United States.
(During the trial, the High Court was told that Najib had spent about RM3.3mil at De Grisogono to buy a gift meant for the wife of Qatar s former prime minister and bought a RM466,000 (US$130,625) Chanel watch for his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.)

PUTRAJAYA, April 20 Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s defence scored an “own goal” when it tendered evidence that effectively contradicted his claim of not knowing his personal bank account’s status in relation to RM42 million of SRC International funds, the Court of Appeal heard today.
Ad hoc prosecutor Datuk V. Sithambaram said this during rebuttal to Najib’s appeal hearing against his conviction and jail sentence for misappropriating RM42 million belonging to SRC International.
PUTRAJAYA: Fugitive CEO Nik Faisal Ariff Kamil was the trusted lieutenant of his former boss Datuk Seri Najib Razak in the misappropriation of RM42mil from SRC International Sdn Bhd funds, the Court of Appeal heard.
Ad hoc prosecutor Datuk V. Sithambaram told a three-man bench of the appellate court that Najib s attempt to disassociate himself from Nik Faisal s actions was not credible as his (Najib) directions were given to the SRC board of directors via Nik Faisal.
He said this clearly showed Nik Faisal was the conduit between Najib and the SRC board. Similarly, to suggest Nik Faisal went rogue in relation to the letter of instruction to AmBank (regarding Najib s personal accounts) is simply outrageous, he said here on Monday (April 19) when making the prosecution s rebuttal in the hearing of Najib s appeal against his conviction and sentence.

The prosecutor submitted before a three-man panel that all of SRC International’s investment plans were only on paper but nothing had come to fruition.
“It is all (only) on paper. But there is nothing to show for it. Nothing, ” he said here Thursday (April 15).
Panel chair Justice Abdul Karim Abdul Jalil had asked Sithambaram about SRC International’s business plans in the hearing of an appeal filed by former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak against his conviction and sentence.
“From what I gather from your submissions, it was like nothing was done. Zero, ” the judge said.
