‘Shameless’ Series Finale Tops 1.5 Million Viewers Across Multiple Showtime Platforms

No shame in these numbers: The series finale of “Shameless” drew 1.511 million total viewers across multiple platforms, according to Showtime. That’s a season high, 29% better than the Season 11 premiere (1.2 million viewers) and +41% from the comedy’s penultimate episode (1.1 million).
It
is a shame, however, that the long-running show is over. The 11-season “Shameless” was Showtime’s most-watched and youngest-skewing comedy. When you factor both of those claims in, it makes sense that “Shameless” was Showtime’s most-streamed comedy series of all time.

Frankâs Fate
We all saw it coming and in a series that doesnât pull punches, how could things have ended any other way? Yes, weâre talking itâs the end of Frank. But first, the episode, which takes place over the course of a single day, opens with the Gallaghers leaning over him to see if heâs alive, with only Liam truly worried. V determines that heâs hypoxic, but after noticing the drug paraphernalia around him, they decide thereâs a possibility heâll wake up over time. Frank does finally wake and stumbles out of the house, wandering the streets. He stops at the boarded-up Patsyâs Pies, keeps going and enters a church, where he heads to a back room thinking itâs mass and heâs an altar boy. The priest has a parishioner call an ambulance to take Frank to the hospital.
Fans hoped Emmy Rossum would return as big sis Fiona for the series finale â hey, you canât always get what you want â but this was as good of a substitute that viewers could expect.
As Frank wandered Chicago for the last time, his storyline paid homage to the eldest sibling. This included pit stops at Patsyâs Pies (shuttered), where Fiona had been a manager once upon a time ago, and the church where she was supposed to marry Sean (Dermot Mulroney) in Season 6. Later on, Frank mistakes one of the nurses for Fiona, remarking how beautiful she is as he lays dying in the hospital. That might feel like a throwaway nod to Rossumâs character, but itâs actually quite sincere and poignant once you know that the actress playing Frankâs nurse is William H. Macyâs own daughter, Sophia Macy.
