The Air Force has launched a massive rescue operation in Uttarakhand's Lamkhaga Pass at an altitude of 17,000 feet where 17 trekkers, tourists, porters, and guides lost their way on October 18 due to heavy snowfall and inclement weather.

Two bodies have been recovered today during the rescue operations at the Tapovan tunnel in Joshimath of Chamoli district where a glacier burst on Sunday triggered an avalanche and a deluge in the Alaknanda river system.
Ashok Kumar, Uttarakhand DGP said, Two bodies found this morning from escape tunnel are suspected to be casualties of the glacier mishap. Overnight excavation has resulted in debris mostly. Teams have reached up to 130m inside and trying to fasten the process to reach next tunnel soon.
ITBP, NDRF, SDRF and the Army are conducting round the clock searches in the area..It is suspected that as many as 30 people are trapped inside the tunnel.
As the water level in the Dhauli Ganga river surged on Thursday, rescue operations have been temporarily halted at the tunnel in Tapovan where more than 30 people are thought to be trapped for over four days since the glacier disaster.
