Congress's Harish Rawat, a chief minister hopeful and a veteran leader, lost the election today. His party too is trailing with less than 20 seats as the BJP crossed the majority mark with more than 45 seats in the 70-seat Uttarakhand assembly.
According to the Election Commission of India, Adityanath, who is contesting the Assembly elections for the first time, received 85,356 while his nearest rival SP candidate Subhawati Upendra Dutt Shukla got 30,498 votes.
While Dhami was trailing behind Congress's Bhuvan Chandra Kapri in Khatima by 2,287 votes, Rawat was trailing behind BJP's Mohan Singh Bisht by 13,893 votes.
