NAINITAL: Leader of Opposition in the Uttarakhand Assembly Indira Hridayesh passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest in New Delhi on Sunday morning. She was 80.
The senior Congress leader and MLA from Haldwani had attended a meeting chaired by party in-charge for Uttarakhand on June 12 and was staying at Uttarakhand Sadan.
Her son Sumit Hridayesh said that she had collapsed and doctors confirmed cardiac arrest .
Indira Hridayesh had tested positive for Covid-19 in September, and had recovered in a few weeks. She had also undergone a heart surgery.
A senior Congress leader told TOI that Hridayesh had gone to Delhi along with state president Pritam Singh to chalk out the strategy for next year s assembly elections .

With Uttarakhand reporting a record number of single-day COVID-19 fatalities and cases on Saturday, Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat held an all-party meeting here virtually to discuss the situation. After the meeting that was attended by state Congress chief Pritam Singh and Leader of Opposition in the Uttarakhand Assembly Indira Hridayesh among others, the chief minister said their suggestions to control the situation will be implemented. The opposition leaders also assured the chief minister of supporting all his endeavours in fighting the pandemic. Rawat said he will continue to take their suggestions to deal with the pandemic in the future as well.
