NOIDA: The Uttar Pradesh ATS and Noida police on Tuesday busted an unauthorised telephone exchange that was being run under the garb of a call centre in Phase 3.
Police said the operators had been using a private server to convert internet calls from abroad into phone calls, bypassing channels of the department of telecommunications (DoT) and causing losses worth lakhs of rupees to the Centre. Police are also trying to find out if the calls posed a threat to national security.
Following a tip-off about an illegal telephone exchange, the police had informed the DoT, which confirmed that illegal call traffic had been detected in the area. During the raid, police found seven persons, including five women, working at the call centre, which sold groceries online to residents of Jammu and Kashmir. The online store, police said, was being run by a company called Beststar BK Enterprise Private Limited.
