The US Supreme Court on Wednesday temporarily preserved access to a widely-used abortion pill, delaying its decision on lower court rulings placing restrictions on the drug. The initial stay came after the Justice Department filed an emergency appeal asking the court to block the lower court rulings that would have banned or limited use of mifepristone, which accounts for more than half of the abortions in the United States.

John grew up in Presho, SD, graduated from college and law school at the University of South Dakota and served as an attorney for many years in Presho. He later was appointed and then elected as a South Dakota Circuit Court Judge until 1981, when he was appointed by President Ronald Reagan to be a U.S. District Court Judge.
