The Uttar Pradesh government has imposed a weekend lockdown in the state to tackle soaring Covid-19 cases. Besides, the government has also ordered that night curfew will continue in all the 75 districts from 8 PM to 7 AM daily.Â
Awanish K Awasthi, Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department, told ANI that all essential services will be exempted during the lockdown period and night restrictions. Weekend lockdown to be imposed in UP on Saturdays and Sundays. Lockdown will come into effect on Friday at 8 pm and continue till Monday at 7 am. Only essential services will be allowed. Night curfew will remain imposed in all districts, Awasthi said.

Impose lockdown in Lucknow, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Kanpur Nagar and Gorakhpur, Allahabad High Court tells UP government.
The Allahabad High Court on Monday asked the Yogi Adityanath government to impose lockdown in five cities of Uttar Pradesh where Covid situation has been deteriorating in a daily basis. However, the Uttar Pradesh government insisted that it has initiated strict steps to control the spiralling coronavirus graph and would not impose total lockdown as it would hit the people hard. The government said that while saving lives was important, safeguarding the livelihood was equally necessary.Â
The high court had suggested that lockdown should be imposed in capital Lucknow, Prayagraj,Varanasi, Kanpur Nagar and Gorakhpur where high virus load has been reported.

Complete lockdown in UP s 5 cities, including Lucknow from tonight: Here s what Allahabad HC said
The Allahabad High Court on Monday asked the Uttar Pradesh government to impose lockdown in five cities including capital Lucknow, amidst worsening Covid-19 situation in the state. The court said that the state government should consider imposing lockdown in Lucknow, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Kanpur Nagar and Gorakhpur. Responding to a Public Interest Litigation, the bench, comprising Justice Siddhartha Verma and Justice Ajit Kumar, directed the state government to strictly enforce the curbs.

Noida witnesses empty roads, low footfall due to COVID-induced Sunday lockdown
 Noida witnessed low footfall and empty roads on Sunday due to the COVID-19-induced lockdown. As per the visuals, the roads were seen empty. Several shops remained closed and only those with essential supplies were open.
The state government on Friday announced a lockdown across the state on all Sundays till May 15. All districts of Uttar Pradesh are under lockdown from 8 pm on Saturday, which will continue till 7 am, Monday.
No services apart from essential ones are allowed in the state. Meanwhile, at Delhi Noida Direct Flyway (DND) vehicular movement was also invigilated by the state police.
