The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh announced a complete lockdown in the state on Sunday (April 18) in a bid to contain the COVID-19 surge. Those caught without a mask in Uttar Pradesh can face a fine of up to Rs 10,000, the Chief Minister ordered as part of new tougher rules. People caught without a mask will be fined Rs 1,000 the first time and Rs 10,000 the next.

To enforce wearing of masks, the UP government has doubled the fine to Rs 1000 for those caught without masks for the first time and 10 times the fine amount for those caught again.

Lucknow: Owing to rising COVID-19 cases, the Uttar Pradesh government Friday announced a lockdown on Sunday in all districts. Also, those who will be caught without masks will have to pay a fine of Rs 1,000. Repeat offenders will have to pay a penalty of 10 times the fine amount. There will be a weekly closure in all rural and urban areas of the state on Sunday. Only sanitation, sanitisation and emergency services will operate during this period. Necessary awareness works should also be done in this regard, said an official statement quoting UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Lucknow: Amid an increasing number of cases of COVID-19 in Uttar Pradesh, state Law Minister Brajesh Pathak has warned of a lockdown in Lucknow. In a letter written to Upper Chief Secretary (Health), Pathak said that if due attention was not given to the grave situation in Lucknow, the state capital may have to be forced into a lockdown.
