Good morning!
A day after International Women’s Day, I’d like to highlight some women who have been making a major impact locally. Whether it be through nonprofit work, lending their eye and skills to some of the coolest spaces in town or simple acts of kindness, here are six women who have left their mark on the community in more ways than one.
Eileen Spring
President and CEO of Food Gatherers, Spring was named United Way of Washtenaw County’s Woman of the Year for her work in alleviating hunger when the pandemic caused local need to skyrocket. “We have never seen anything like it,” Spring said in October.

Projects with Vanguard CDC and University of Michigan’s Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning will provide neighborhood residents with a new library and an attractive main street.
DETROIT February 25, 2021 The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation today announced nearly $2 million in support for projects that accelerate equitable growth in Detroit’s Historic North End. Knight support will be used to help transform the area into a pedestrian-friendly destination in partnership with Vanguard Community Development Corporation (CDC) and design a community-oriented library with the University of Michigan (U-M) Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning.
Knight’s commitment is part of its ongoing strategic focus to help advance the historically Black neighborhood, which is experiencing an influx of economic growth as local funders and community organizations invest in the area. LAWRENCE The School of Architecture & Design at the University of Kansas has announced the Spring 2021 Architecture Lecture Series lineup.
The Architecture Lecture Series welcomes architecture and experiential design leaders from across the country to the School of Architecture & Design. Lecturers bring a wide range of expertise in such areas as sustainable building, digital environments, public interest design, historic preservation, health and wellness design and more.
