We were there this morning when governor branstad announced the creation of the Wrongful Conviction division to be run by the state Public Defenders Office. The focus of the new division will be to identify potential cases involving inmates who have been wrongfully convicted, as well as to pursue available legal remedies. Gov. Branstad this division of the Public Defenders Office will take the lead to move forward with postconviction relief, to see that the innocent people that may have been convicted are represented, and they get their day in court.
