Prince Philip, 99, dedicated much of his adult life to serving the crown after his wife Queen Elizabeth II, succeeded the throne in 1952. During his time as a working royal, the Duke of Edinburgh amassed hundreds of patronages, prizes and honorary military appointments.

Prince Philip, 99, retired from public life in 2017 at the age of 96. But despite removing himself from the royal bubble, The Duke of Edinburgh has held on to several honorary military roles. The Duke received a large number of these honours upon Queen Elizabeth II s accession to the throne in 1952.

The writer and producer behind hits including Line of Duty and Bodyguard received the accolade for services to television drama.
Mercurio (54) was born in Nelson but grew up in Cannock, Staffordshire. He studied at the University of Birmingham Medical School before he was commissioned as a pilot officer in the Royal Air Force Medical Branch, receiving flying training with the University Air Squadron.
He had intended to specialise in aviation medicine and it was during his practice as a hospital physician that he answered an advertisement in the British Medical Journal and, despite little writing experience, scripted the BBC medical drama Cardiac Arrest under the pseudonym John MacUre.
