Huntsville still named a most moved to city even amid pandemic

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - According to the annual 2020 United Van Lines National Movers Study, Alabama made the top 10 list of states people moved to in 2020, coming in at number 8.
Meanwhile, Huntsville came in as the fourth most moved to city for in 2020.
Claire Aiello with the Huntsville Madison County Chamber said the reason behind people moving to the Rocket City is simple.
“This is a market that’s very resilient to the pandemic,” she said. “A lot of people who are able to work from home here. Many of our companies have positions where you can telework.”

More people moved into Alabama than moved away in 2020, according to a recent study from moving company United Van Lines. Alabama cracked the company’s top 10 list for incoming movers in 2020, after missing the cut in 2019.
Huntsville, the state’s second most populous city, came in as the fourth most popular destination in the lower 48 based on the study’s metrics.
The 2020 United Van Lines National Movers Study, released annually, tracks movers to and from the 48 continental states. The study shows nearly 60 percent of all of the company’s moves involving Alabama resulted in people moving to the state, while just 40 percent saw people moving away.
