D.C. mayor calls for congressional inquiry into security failures that enabled insurrection CNBC 7/01/2021 Tucker Higgins
The mayor of Washington, D.C., called on Congress to establish a panel to investigate the security lapses that enabled a mob to penetrate the U.S. Capitol Complex and threaten lawmakers.
The call came as the U.S. Capitol Police faces scrutiny for allowing supporters of President Donald Trump to swarm the Capitol while hundreds of elected leaders including the first, second and third in line of presidential succession were inside. Congress must create a nonpartisan commission to understand the catastrophic security failures that happened at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, both to hold people accountable and to ensure that it never happens again, Bowser, a Democrat, said in an address billed as a situational update.
