Wellington Bus drivers at NZ Bus this morning rejected the Next Capital-owned company’s attempt to buy out their terms and conditions and voted to resume strike action if the company does not return to the table with a fair offer by May 28.
Tramways Union Secretary Kevin O’Sullivan says the rejection of the offer was not a surprise. “Members don’t want to give up their rates and allowances – these are the parts of the agreement that give them some control over their work lives and their health and safety.

All services will be impacted from 9am until about 2pm while drivers decide whether to settle or reject a pay agreement with NZ Bus.
If it s rejected, the drivers will discuss a strike - although there s no date in mind yet.
Tramways Union Secretary Kevin O Sullivan says the relationship with NZ Bus has completely broken down.
He says they re expecting a full attendance, and anticipates NZ Bus s proposal will be firmly rejected.
NZ Bus says the offer is a good deal, but it requires a bit of give and take for it to work for everyone.

On Saturday night a passenger got off the Number Three bus near Massey University, and was reportedly clear of the vehicle when it started moving.
But the man became trapped and ended up being dragged more than 600 metres down Taranaki Street before the driver realised.
Emergency services were called just before 10pm, but the man died at the scene.
Tramways Union Secretary Kevin O Sullivan spoke to the driver, and says it s unclear how the man became trapped.
He says the driver is taking time off to recover.
