I am pete carmichael, the member of the History Department here at Gettysburg College and the director of the civil war institute. Our final speaker for this afternoon is lorien foote. Lorien foote is a professor of history at texas a m university. The aggies. Where she teaches courses on Civil War History and reconstruction, 19thcentury america, and reform movements. Lorien got her start at the university of kansas where you did your undergrad and then went on to get her phd at the university of oklahoma. Her second book published in 2010, the gentleman and the roughs manhood, honor, and violence in the union army is one of my favorites on the soldier experience. Lorien did fantastic research. She dug into the National Archives and looked at courtmartial records which had really been underutilized until lorien got a hold of them.
