This was done soon after Prime Minister Narendra Modi directed officials at a meeting on oxygen availability that supply must be ensured in a “smooth, unhindered manner”. He said that it was important to “fix responsibility with the local administration in cases of obstruction”. The PM also stressed that the states should come down heavily on hoarding.

The Centre on Thursday invoked stringent provisions under the Disaster Management Act, 2005 to make it clear that no authority would be allowed to halt and divert oxygen carrying vehicles, adding that district authorities will be held responsible in case of any violation.
