JAMMU, May 27: Union Home Ministry today approved the appointment of Arun Kumar Mehta – 1988 batch IAS officer of AGMUT cadre as new Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory.
“Arun Kumar Mehta will take over as Chief Secretary, J&K from the date B V R Subrahmanyam relinquishes the charge and until further orders”, says the D.O letter No. 14016/14/2021-UTS-1 dated today written by Union Home Secretary, Ajay Bhalla to the office of Lieutenant Governor J&K, Manoj Sinha.

Srinagar, May 27 (IANS) J&K Chief Secretary, B.V.R. Subrahmanyam, was on Thursday posted as OSD in the Union Commerce Ministry and will succeed Commerce Secretary Anup Wadhawan on his retirement next month-end.

DGFT starts Covid Helpdesk for int l trade related issues

New Delhi, April 26 : The Union Commerce Ministry and the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) have undertaken to monitor the status of exports and imports, and the difficulties being faced by the trade stakeholders in view of the alarming surge in Covid-19 cases in the country.
In this regard, the DGFT has operationalised a Covid-19 Helpdesk to support and seek suitable resolutions to issues arising with respect to international trade.
This helpdesk would look into the issues relating to the Department of Commerce/DGFT, import and export licensing issues, Customs clearance delays and complexities arising thereon, import/export documentation issues, banking matters etc.
Highlights
Exports of iron and steel amounted to $2.53 billion, marking a Y-o-Y increase of 336.44% and making India the 4th largest exporter of iron and steel to China
Exports of aluminum and its articles registered a massive increase of 2023.12% to reach $640 mn and making India the fifth largest exporter in this category to China
New Delhi: India-China bilateral trade in 2020 decreased by 5.64% Y-o-Y and stood at $87.65 billion compared to $92.89 billion in 2019, according to Union Commerce Ministry s recent data on India-China trade in 2020. Notably, Indian imports from China also dropped by 10.87% and stood at $66.78 billion compared to $74.92 billion in 2019.
Accordingly, the trade deficit with China has declined by 19.39% from $56.95 billion in 2019 to $45.91 billion.
