PUDUCHERRY: N Balamourougan has been appointed as the special public prosecutor for the National Investigation Agency (NIA) special court in Puducherr.
NIA team was attacked in West Bengal s East Medinipur district on Saturday when it was conducting searches to arrest two key conspirators - Balai Charan Maity and Manobrata Jana - for their alleged involvement in the December 2022 blast in which three persons were killed.
A special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court directed BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur, an accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, to appear for recording statements from February 27 onwards. The court warned of "necessary action" if she fails to do so. Thakur and six others face trial under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act and Indian Penal Code.
Nine individuals accused in the murder case of Udaipur tailor Kanhaiya Lal, who was hacked to death in June 2022 for allegedly supporting a social media post against Islam, had charges framed against them, including under the anti-terror law UAPA. The accused, Mohammad Riyaz and Mohammad Gause, filmed the act and posted it online. Charges were framed under various IPC sections and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
