COVID-19: Delhi High Court returns to virtual mode till April 23 ANI | Updated: Apr 08, 2021 22:17 IST
New Delhi [India], April 8 (ANI): Amid the rising COVID-19 cases in the national capital, the Delhi High Court on Thursday announced that it will take up matters through virtual mode till April 23 starting from Friday. In continuation of this court s office order No.190/RG/DHC/2021 dated March 3, Full court has been pleased to order that in view of the alarming rise in the COVID-19 cases in the NCT of Delhi, this court shall, with effect from April 9, take up matters as per the existing arrangement with regard to the listing of cases, through virtual mode only, till April 23, a public notification said.

The Delhi High Court has ordered through its Registrar General that in light of the alarming rise in Covid-19 cases in the NCT of Delhi , the High Court and all district courts in the capital will shift to the virtual mode of hearings till Apr 23.
The order dated Apr 8 further adds that all the courts of the Joint Registrars shall also function through the virtual mode only from Apr 9, and that no adverse orders shall be passed by them in case of non-appearance of parties and/or their counsels.
Matters fixed for recording of evidence shall stand adjourned. The order further states that in respect of hearings before lower courts the video conferencing links for the hearings shall be made available on the website/causelist.
Calcutta High Court Registers Suo Moto Case To Monitor Mentally Ill Prisoners In Terms Of Sheela Barse Case

The Calcutta High Court has registered a
suo moto case to monitor the mental health and other allied matters of various convicts and undertrial prisoners lodged in various correctional homes in West Bengal and the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The case has been registered on the basis of administrative directions issued by
Chief Justice Thottathil B. Radhakrishnan, in terms of the Supreme Court s directions in
Sheela Barse v. Union of India & Ors., (1995) 5 SCC 654.
In this case, the Supreme Court was dealing with a letter petition highlighting the deplorable manner in which mentally ill women and children were kept in Presidency Jail at Calcutta.
What impels me to write this Article is a recent press report in Dainik Jagran which states that about 20000 bail applications are pending in Patna High Court. The bail applications filed in August.
