Getting There: Are there rules around funeral processions in traffic?
FacebookTwitterEmail
The state Vehicle and Traffic Law doesn t have much to say about rules directing funeral processions.Lori Van Buren/Albany Times Union
Q: I was driving on a state road with a 55 mph speed limit when traffic ground to a halt. Apparently the slowdown was due to a group of fewer than 10 cars in a funeral procession, led by a hearse going about 10 mph. All the vehicles had their flashing lights on. Is this legal? Polly Windels
A: Funeral processions are legal, even on the highway, but the lead vehicle should consider the safety of others, said Lt. Robert Donnelly of the Colonie Police Department, traffic safety division.
