It was gathered that the man was arrested alongside two of his sons and three other suspects. The suspect, Haruna Yusuf confessed to have sold over 10,000 arms and ammunition to bandits in the forest. Parading the suspects at the command headquarters, the state commissioner of police, Sanusi Buba, said the arrest of the culprits followed credible intelligence report received by his command.

By  Francis Sardauna A notorious gunrunner, Haruna Yusuf of Sawarya village in Kaita Local Government Area of Katsina State, on Monday admitted before police authorities that he sold 20 AK-47 rifles to bandits terrorising communities in the state for N600,000 each. The 47-year-old suspect, who was among other suspected gun-runners and bandits paraded by the State Police Command, added that he also sold three General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs) for N4,000,000 to the marauding bandits. He confirmed that he bought the sophisticated weapons from one Hussain from Damagaram in Niger Republic and ferried them into the country through illegal routes within border towns in Katsina.

Father, two sons nabbed for banditry in Katsina

Punch Newspapers Sections Olaide Oyelude, Katsina A father and two of his sons were among sixteen suspects paraded on Monday at the Katsina police headquarters for alleged banditry and supply of weapons to bandits. Two  General Purpose Machine Guns, one LAR  rifle, and 200 pieces of anti-aircraft ammunition allegedly recovered from the suspects were among the items also displayed during the parade. The arms dealer, Haruna Yusuf, 47; his two sons Shuaibu Haruna, 18, Murtala Haruna, 20, and his nephew Ibrahim Salisu, 20, all of Sawarya village, Kaita Local  Government Area of Katsina State were paraded. Those paraded also included were two Nigeriens, Ibrahim Dabo,19, and Umar Bello, 28.

  The Katsina State Police Command has arrested 19 suspects in connection with arms and ammunition supply, kidnapping, and banditry in Katsina and other neighboring states. Briefing journalists on Monday at the Command Headquarters in Katsina, the Commissioner of Police, Sanusi Buba revealed that the police operatives have been following one Lawal Zayyana of Muduru village, in Mani Local Government Area of the state. The 35-year-old Zayyana is said to be a notorious bandit and supplier of arms and ammunition to bandits in the forest. In the process, two General Purpose Machine Guns, one LAR Rifle and 179 Anti-Aircraft Ammunition were recovered. The police commissioner said the suspect was trailed and arrested alongside his cohorts; Haruna Yusuf of Sawarya village, Kaita LGA, Haruna Adamu, and Auwal Abubakar, both of Maduru village, Mani LGA of the state.
