Police arrest arms supplier to bandits CP

The Katsina State Police Command says it has arrested an alleged supplier of arms and ammunition to bandits in the state.
The police alleged that one Haruna Yusuf, 47, and other suspects found with two machine guns and 179 anti-aircraft ammunition, were arrested.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Sanusi Buba, announced this during a news conference on Monday in Katsina.
Buba said that the suspects were arrested in their hideouts at Sawarya village, Kaita Local Government Area of Katsina State.

A notorious gunrunner, Haruna Yusuf of Sawarya village in Kaita Local Government Area of Katsina State, on Monday admitted before police authorities that he sold 20 AK-47 rifles to bandits terrorising communities in the state for N600,000 each.
The 47-year-old suspect, who was among other suspected gun-runners and bandits paraded by the State Police Command, added that he also sold three General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs) for N4,000,000 to the marauding bandits.
He confirmed that he bought the sophisticated weapons from one Hussain from Damagaram in Niger Republic and ferried them into the country through illegal routes within border towns in Katsina.

the Katsina State Police Command has arrested 16 suspects for alleged gunrunning, banditry and supply of weapons to bandits.
Two General Purpose Machine Guns, one LAR rifle and 200 anti-aircraft ammunition were allegedly recovered from the suspects, who were paraded on Monday at the Katsina police command headquarters.
The suspects included an alleged arms dealer, Haruna Yusuf, 47; his two sons Ibrahim Salisu, 20, and Shuaibu Haruna, 18 and his nephew, Murtala Haruna, 20. The suspects were said to be from Sawarya village, in the Kaita Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Others were two Nigeriens, Ibrahim Dabo, 19; and Umar Bello, 28; both of Natsinta village, Kandamau, Maradi, Niger Republic.

Police in Katsina State have arrested a man who allegedly sold 10,000 arms and ammunition to bandits.
It was gathered that the man was arrested alongside two of his sons and three other suspects.
The suspect, Haruna Yusuf confessed to have sold over 10,000 arms and ammunition to bandits in the forest.
Parading the suspects at the command headquarters, the state commissioner of police, Sanusi Buba, said the arrest of the culprits followed credible intelligence report received by his command.
“ confessed to be the gang leader.
“He told police that he usually receives the supply of arms and ammunition from the Republic of Niger and hands over to Lawan Zayyana, Haruna Adamu and Auwal Abubakar, who will in turn take the supply to bandits in the forest.
“Furthermore, Haruna Adamu and Auwal Abubakar confessed to have severally trafficked such arms and ammunition to bandits in Gurbi and Dan-Magaji areas in Zamfara” he said.
The commissioner further said that the police arrested 14 other suspects at the hideouts during the raid.
Buba said that other items recovered in their possession included one vehicle and seven motorcycles they used in trafficking the weapons to bandits in the forests.
