The highly acclaimed artist, Amrita Sher-Gil s 1938 painting titled In the Ladies Enclosure was sold for a whopping Rs 37.8 crore (USD 5.14 million) at a Tuesday auction by Mumbai-based auction house Saffronart.
The Indo-Hungarian artist s sold work set a world record for the highest value achieved by the artist in the auction. It is also the second-most expensive work of Indian art sold globally.
