Safdar s arrest, leave applications and an army probe While cases against opposition politicians have riled up their leadership, it was the arrest of PML-N leader retired Captain Mohammad Safdar, who is also the husband of Maryam Nawaz, in Karachi that became a tipping point. In October, Safdar was arrested for by police from the hotel he was staying in a day after a massive PDM public gathering was held in Karachi, which was addressed by PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz among other leaders. Hours before the gathering, Safdar and Maryam along with their supporters visited Jinnah s mausoleum where the former raised political slogans. The act was criticised by PTI supporters as well as some government officials, who deemed it as disrespectful. It was because of this that a case was registered against Safdar which later resulted in his arrest from the hotel a day later.

Promotions of Lahore CCPO, two other senior officers uncertain - Pakistan

Lahore CCPO Umar Sheikh. DawnNewsTV/File LAHORE: The promotion of three BS-20 police officers, including Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Umar Sheikh, may again hang in the balance as the Central Selection Board (CSB) is scheduled to meet in Islamabad on Jan 4 to decide the fate of 55 officers. Deputy inspector general (DIG)-ranked officers Ahmad Ishaq Jahangir and retired Capt Feroze Shah were also among those whose cases would be reviewed for promotion. These three officers from the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) were superseded by the previous selection board held in January this year. On the other hand, two members of the upcoming selection board were also part of the previous CSB that had opposed the promotions of the abovementioned officials, including the CCPO, and also written strong dissenting remarks. Resultantly, the CSB had superseded the three officials.
