Tiffany Tanner: Boren Fellowship recipient to study Russian in Belarus - UMaine News

University of Maine graduate student Tiffany Tanner of Brunswick, Maine will study Russian in Belarus after earning a Boren Fellowship.  The Institute of International Education (IIE), on behalf of the National Security Education Program (NSEP), grants Boren Fellowships to graduate students pursuing public service careers so they can study a language abroad. Each fellowship provides up to $25,000 for up to 52 weeks of study, according to the Boren Awards website. Tanner is one of 124 fellowship recipients from a pool of 334 applicants, according to the institute.  Tanner, a global policy student enrolled in the 4+1 program from the School of Policy and International Affairs (SPIA), says she plans to participate in the Russian language program at Minsk State Linguistic University for 10 months.

Events Share Tri-Town Bookmobile visiting libraries Maine School Administration District 60 will participate in a “Take Your Child to the Library Day” event this Saturday, featuring visits by the the Tri-Town Bookmobile to three participating public libraries in the district. The bookmobile will visit the D. A. Hurd Library, the Berwick Public Library, and the Martha Sawyer Community Library in Lebanon for a “stuff the bus” food drive. Non-perishable items collected from the D. A. Hurd Library and the Martha Sawyer Community Library will benefit the MSAD 60 Backpack Program. Items collected from the Berwick Public Library will benefit the Berwick/Somersworth food pantry. (The D. A. Hurd Library is currently a collection location for the North Berwick food pantry.) UMaine to host virtual career fair Feb. 3 - UMaine News

The University of Maine Career Center will host the annual Career Fair virtually 9 a.m.–3 p.m. Feb. 3 on the Career Link platform.   UMaine’s Career Fair, which is the largest in the state, is held each year for UMaine and University of Maine at Machias students and alumni of all majors. All those with an @maine.edu address are welcome to attend. More than 108 employers from Maine and around the country will participate; all have summer jobs, internships and part-time or full-time positions available for applicants in every discipline. Selected branches of the U.S. military will also be represented.
