Counting for ULB polls begins in Visakhapatnam

For the 98 wards under GVMC, 567 candidates are in the fray from various parties and about 10.52 lakh votes out of a total of 17.26 lakh are to be counted.

For the 98 wards under GVMC, 567 candidates are in the fray from various parties and about 10.52 lakh votes out of a total of 17.26 lakh are to be counted. The counting of votes for the 98 wards under Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation, 28 wards under Narsipatnam municipality and 25 under Yelamanchili municipality began at a slow pace here on March 14.
The first round reports are yet to be declared. Officials said the results for GVMC may go late into the night. Results for Narsipatnam and Yelamanchili may be declared by evening, as the number of wards and voters are fewer.

Amaravati: The polling for 12 Municipal Corporations, including Greater Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada, and 75 Municipalities and Nagar Panchayats in Andhra Pradesh was held on Tuesday. Over 65 per cent of polling was recorded in the elections to urban local bodies. The counting of votes will be held on March 14, the State Election Commission (SEC) said.
The urban local body elections were abruptly deferred in March last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic after the nominations were filed. After nominations were filed and scrutiny was completed, the commission had on March 15, 2020, suspended the election process for the ULBs for six weeks in view of Covid-19 and later extended it until further orders.

Amaravati, Mar 10: The polling for 12 Municipal Corporations, including Greater Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada, and 75 Municipalities and Nagar Panchayats in Andhra Pradesh began early morning on Tuesday. The results will be declared on March 14, the State Election Commission (SEC) said.
The Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government in Andhra Pradesh will face the first test of its governance as the urban local bodies (ULBs) in the state go to polls on Wednesday.
The ULB elections are being held amid a strong attack on the government by a combined opposition which has accused the ruling YSR Congress of resorting to high-handed tactics, abuse of state machinery, particularly the police, in a bid to grab the civic bodies.
