u.s. intelligence about where this is going. they are not done! the russians are not done. it s a matter of two independent republics in eastern ukraine. they want this democratically elected administration and regime in ukraine out. and they want somebody more like in belarus. pro russian military which you have seen in the last 20 years. that s right, it is also something that ukraine, more than, ones has already overthrown. this is something, i think, that vladimir putin has probably been spending a lot of time thinking about. and it definitely factors into what is obviously more conspiratorial of you in the part of the russian president at this point. that is not speculation. he is basically laying that out for us over the past week on multiple instances. you know, when you just kind of read through the lines of what we are getting through the official statements from the russians, it is clear, you know,
might consider going all the way to kyiv? actually, i think that he is more likely to go for kyiv than just to bite off a piece. i think if you look back at the record of what the united states has dup in iraq, we sort of set a model for what he might do in ukraine. we went in with less force than we needed to fully occupy the country. i was a cnn military analyst at the time. we were saying you don t have enough troops. they were directing the size of the force. we went right in for backgghdadd forced regime change. putin wants a regime change that will keep ukraine out of nato and send a strong signal to the west that his military is really, really powerful. so i think he s going to make a grab for kyiv, if i had to make a prediction on this. and i think he s going to wait until after this nuclear exercise, or maybe in the middle

so in that sense, i think the older people, more conservative, people watching tv do tend to support this military action, and in fact, a poll that cnn in fact had is taken before the troops went in, was about 50% thought that russia should be allowed to take military action to keep ukraine out of nato. but then you get the younger people and that s some of what you re seeing on the streets there in st. petersburg, quite a few of them who don t agree with this, they re not watching tv, they re on the internet. they have a lot of different sources, they re very much tuned into social media, and they re the ones who are on the streets. there are other people as you can see, but a lot who are young and they re, they actually have this nit vanya which means no to war theme they re talking about and they re being arrested or
