April is shaping up to be Brazil’s darkest month yet in the pandemic, with hospitals struggling with a crush of patients, deaths on track for record highs and few signs of a reprieve from a troubled vaccination program in Latin America’s largest nation.
The Health Ministry has cut its outlook for vaccine supplies in April three times already, to half their initial level, and the country’s two biggest laboratories are facing supply constraints.

(CNN) - Less than 20% of Americans are fully vaccinated and some parts of the United States are seeing concerning increases of COVID-19 cases.
Experts are raising the alarm about a virus variant that appears to be infecting school-age children and younger adults.
The highly contagious B117 variant is on the rise in Europe and experts fear that the U.S. could be next if safety measures are not implemented.
“What we know from the past year of the pandemic is that we tend to trend about three to four weeks behind Europe,” Dr. Celine Gounder, an epidemiologist, said.

At the end of 2020, there was a strong hope that high levels of vaccination would see humanity finally gain the upper hand over SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.
In an ideal scenario, the virus would then be contained at very low levels without further societal disruption or significant numbers of deaths.
But since then, new variants of concern have emerged and spread worldwide, putting current pandemic control efforts, including vaccination, at risk of being derailed.
38 additional cases of the U.K. COVID-19 variant are confirmed in Iowa.
The Iowa Department of Public Health reminds Iowans that the COVID-19 vaccines are effective against variants of the virus.
The first confirmed cases of the U.K. variant in Iowa were discovered back in February.

The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) has confirmed 38 additional cases of the COVID-19 variant, SARS-CoV-2 B.1.1.7. in Iowa. The variant is often referred to as the U.K. variant because it was first detected in the United Kingdom.
This increase in the number of detected variants comes in part as a result of increasing the number of tests being sequenced by the State Hygienic L
