At the beginning of May, I opened Netflix to a splash of graduated colors announcing a new featured collection, “Celebrate Asian American & Pacific Islander Stories.” The unapologetic mouthful truly surprised me we don’t get featured. We don’t get recognized. We don’t get
celebrated. But here we are, even if it took a year of highly publicized hate crimes for Americans to consider us. The history of Asians and Pacific Islanders in film and TV could fill pages, but I have a long list of titles to get to. So, here are my rapid-fire impressions, as well as some additional thoughts:
The grandma pie at Pizza Leila feeds you like family. The Sicilian-style pie is a tribute to simple homestyle preparation, just as grandma would make: crust, cheese, sauce and a few basil leaves plucked fresh from a plant.
In a kitchen hidden out of sight in downtown Dallas, every component of this pizza has been stitched together from scratch. Chef Ji Kang spent two weeks developing the recipe for the dough, which had to be crispy on the bottom but soft in the middle. Two types of mozzarella mingle with a chili-kissed sauce, all topped off with basil leaves steeped in olive oil.

What to expect when you’re expecting at the Oscars! Pregnant stars including
In fact, Teigen has done this not once, but twice! The
Lip Sync Battle cohost showed up to the 2016 Oscars in a Marchesa dress that she had to be sewn into. The stunning gown, which featured a plunging neckline and red accents, hugged her baby bump. Her husband,
John Legend, cradled her stomach as they posed for pics.
Later that same night, the pair attended the Vanity Fair Oscar Party where Teigen showed off yet another maternity look. The mom-to-be, who was expecting her first child at the time, went for a wildly different look when she showed up with a shimmery black gown draped over her baby bump.

The Dallas Morning Newsreported that James Beard Award-winning chef David Chang was opening three ghost kitchens in North Texas. Called Fuku, they will serve uber-trendy hot chicken “sandos” and strips.
Chang is the chef and founder of the Momofuku group of restaurants, which includes Momofuko Noodle Bar, Milk Bar and Momofuku Ko. The latter was awarded two Michelin Stars in 2009 and has kept them since. Chang also has a show on Netflix called
Ugly Delicious with an entire episode dedicated to Nashville hot chicken.
The three Fuku ghost kitchens serving North Texas are actually stationary food trucks operated by a company called Reef Kitchen. Customers can order on the Fuku website and choose from several different third-party companies to deliver their food or pick it up in person at one of the trucks.
