Madras high court on Thursday sentenced senior party leader and state’s higher education minister K Ponmudy and his wife to three-year imprisonment in a ₹1.75-crore disproportionate assets case | Latest News India
Justice G Jayachandran set aside a 2016 order acquitting K Ponmudi in a case of disproportionate assets. Ponmudi is also the subject of suo motu revision proceedings initiated by the Court in another DA case.
The court did not allow senior BJP leader Basanagouda Patil Yatnal to implead in the case. The Cabinet had, last week, decided to withdraw the sanction to CBI on the grounds that the then CM BS Yediyurappa did not follow the procedures when the government gave sanction to the CBI in 2019.
