Sri Lanka's former president Gotabaya Rajapaksa will return to the island nation next week after fleeing in July amid mass protests, local broadcaster Newsfirst reported on Wednesday, citing a former ambassador.
Gotabaya Rajapaksa will return to Sri Lanka on August 24, his nephew Udayanga Weeratunga said on Wednesday, over a month after the former president fled the country.
Former Ambassador to Sri Lanka and Rajapaksa s cousin Udayanga Weeratunga, who appeared before an investigation into a procurement of MiG aircraft during the civil war against Tamil rebels, said that the former President would return to the country.
