Nancy Lubeski named new HISD superintendent
Huron County native has over 22 years of education experience

The Huron Intermediate School District has announced that Huron County native Dr. Nancy Lubeski will be the district’s next superintendent.
“We are absolutely thrilled to land someone of Nancy’s caliber to lead the ISD,” HISD school board president Jan Holz said in the announcement. “The board is confident that Dr. Lubeski’s fresh perspective and broad experiences will help the county continue on its path to excellence.”
The board made its decision at a meeting earlier this week. Holz said that the school board felt Lubeski brought a lot with her experience and excellence in special education.

The Huron Intermediate School District board announced April 12 that six candidates for the superintendent position were advancing to the interview stage.
The board utilized the Michigan Association of School Boards to conduct the superintendent search.
According to a press release from the MASB, the interviews are the “beginning of a rigorous vetting process that will include a minimum of two rounds of public interviews as well as thorough background and reference checks.”

For a second day in a row, schools are calling off class following the snowstorm that hit mid-Michigan.
A Facebook post Tuesday night by Lapeer Community Schools announced school will be closed Wednesday, Feb. 17. However, childcare will remain open through the district.
“Schools will be closed Wednesday, February 17, due to hazardous road conditions, mainly on our back roads. Kids & Company will be open for childcare only. Please SHARE,” the post reads.

Students remain in class as schools see additional COVID-19 cases

The majority of student across the Upper Thumb remain in class as schools continue to announce new COVID-19 cases among students and staff members.
Some schools have even made the decision to transition certain grades to temporary remote learning if exposed to an individual with coronavirus symptoms.
On Jan. 27, Deckerville Community Schools notified parents of two school associated COVID-19 cases in a student or staff member. According to announcement, cleaning and disinfecting of the exposed locations has been completed.
The school s COVID-19 dashboard, located on its website, has been updated regularly and remains the ideal location for Deckerville community members to seek school related virus news.
