this post in 2017. he is also a registered republican. but that did not matter to the gop members who used today s hearing to go after him personally. when the court says the fbi misled, but it s a nice way of saying they lied. the american people fully understand that there is a two tiered justice system. that has been weaponized to persecute people based on their political beliefs. and that you have personally been worked to weaponize the fbi against conservatives. i would disagree with your characterization of the fbi. and certainly your description of my own approach. the idea that i m biased against conservatives seems somewhat insane to me given my own personal background. your job is to review what they do, your job is to protect the american people from tyrannical fbi, storming the home of an american family. i could not disagree more with your description of the fbi s tyrannical. you seem deeply and curious about, it don t you? almost suspiciously i m c
report on inflation was better than ever expected, prices rose just 3% in june, which is the lowest increase we have seen since march of 2021. there is so uncertainty out there about what this means long term, we are gonna hash all of that out later in the hour. but inflation was not at the top of the agenda for some lawmakers on capitol hill today. the republican-led house judiciary committee spent about six long hours questioning fbi director chris wray. the house gop along with former president trump had been hammering ray and the bureau for months. the attacks of course have intensified and made the trump classified documents case and after hunter biden took a plea deal. keep in mind that christopher wray is not a democrat he is not a joe biden crony, he was appointed by donald trump to this post into thousand and 17. he is also a registered republican. but that did not matter to the gop members who used today s hearing to go after him personally. in the court, they say
about what is going on inside the fbi? amid these attacks on the agency on chris wray. there was a lot of shock, i have to say, there is sort of a stunned reaction in a news room as well. because much of the war reporting that we have been doing for the last several months has been about how cautious and careful, and at some point could gloves the fbi was and how you pursued the evidence of criminal and possible criminal troubles the lead on the part of republicans? including donald trump and his allies. you know, the fbi stuff was the entity that hot fbi the idea i returned from club when there were videotape evidence of obtained by their own agents showing that he was not complying with the subpoena. that more records had been moved out of a storage area.
that is what should have happened today. we have serious issues to discuss about whether we renew the fisa act or not. whether we can have national security wiretaps or not. whether the fbi can contact social media platforms or not. but we really have never gotten to that today. because this was a circus. dave former colleagues of yours, like our members of the fbi watching this hearing. and what are they feeling tonight? yeah, look, i do, and they re upset. they are upset, you know, if you ask any questions and you have, years ago, a few years ago during the trump administration about morale they would ve, said hey, they put their head, and they do their job, they stay to the mission. but this really does erode the mission. they really go out and wash their badge and credentials and ask for help in serious cases. and they are not sure the public thinks they are credible. that is mission compromising. and that is what is happening.
from literally that onboarding job that we all take in the justice department when we start out. he served as the head of the doj s criminal division in washington during a republican administration. like every fbi director since j edgar hoover s time he is a republican. legislative republican. so i think what we re seeing here is someone who did not take this job expecting that he would be pummeled from the right, not with legitimate oversight concerns, but with made of attacks. with conspiracy theories designed to destroy the fbi. it is time for us to call this what it is. it is not just talking about defunding the agency, it is trying to use people in congress to minimize the agency in a way that we have never seen an american public life. everyone who has the opportunity to should be calling this out strongly. carol, what have you heard
