Mountaineers start week strong, falter at end
May 12, 2021BERLIN The Berlin Mountaineer varsity baseball team began a busy three-game week last Monday with a walkoff victory over the Woodsville Engineers at home by a score of 4-3. Unfortunately, that would be the high water mark of the week for Berlin as they would then drop back to back games on Thursday and Friday to Littleton and Laconia. The Mountaineers currently stand with a record of 5-3 and they quickly progress into the second half of the regular season.
On Monday, the Mountaineers would be led offensively by Griffin Melanson (3-4, two runs, one RBI) and Tyler Rousseau (2-4, one run, double), while freshman Kolin Melanson would throw six solid innings before giving way to Carter Poulin in the seventh inning. Griffin Melanson would tie the game at one in the bottom of the second inning as he would scamper home on a passed ball. BERLIN â The first ever state regional welding competitions were held simultaneously Friday at White Mountains Community College in Berlin and the Novel Iron Works in Greenland.
Students from Berlin and Littleton High schools and the Lakes Region Technology Center took part in the competition at the White Mountains Community College. Both sites were linked together via Zoom throughout the day-long competition with the top three winners from both competitions advancing to the statewide competition in Manchester later this month.
The Seacoast competition was co-sponsored by Great Bay Community College and Arc Source and hosted by Novel Iron Works. The competition at WMCC was co-sponsored by the college and Capone Iron North Woods of Berlin.
April 28, 2021BERLIN The Berlin High School baseball team has started the season with three straight victories, defeating the Colebrook Mohawks by a score of 20-1 last Monday, before beating the Littleton Crusaders 6-4 this past Saturday at Memorial Field.
In the 20-1 win over Colebrook, sophomore pitcher Jeremyha Dow threw five innings, striking out 12 and not allowing a single hit in the mercy rule shortened game. On Saturday, Griffin Melanson would extend the Mountaineer winning streak to three, as he threw a complete game while striking out eight to earn his first victory on the mound this season.
On Saturday, the Mountaineer bats came out swinging early against Crusader pitcher Josh Finkle. A Ben Estrella single led off the bottom of the first inning before Tyler Rousseau would reach on an error by Littleton shortstop Blake Fillion. Dom Paradis would then work a walk against Finkle to load the bases. Kam Huntoon would then provide a two-RBI single to open the scoring. A pair
